About Sam Kelly’s Blues Band
SAM KELLY’S BAND has been featuring on the U.K. live music circuit for many years. SAM KELLY (included in Blues in Britain magazine’s “Gallery of Greats”) leads from the drum-seat, selecting his Band from a wealth of fantastic musicians.

The Artists

SAM KELLY

Sam’s playing career started in the early 1970’s with “Cymande”, an 8-piece ‘Nyah Rock’ band, working and recording successfully in the U.S.A. between 1971-1974. His self-taught style of drumming has placed Sam in the drumseat with Cymande, Dr. John, Chaka Khan, Eddie Floyd, Robert Plant, Roger Chapman, Michelle Shocked, Mick Ralphs (Mott the Hoople/Bad Company) Blues Band and the late, great Gary Moore. Sam played drums on Gary’s last R&B album “Bad for you Baby”. Recently Sam has played with Imelda May, Paul Jones, Robben Ford, Andy Fairweather Low, Chris Barber and Mike Sanchez. With a delicate sensitivity to rhythm and a great understanding of dynamics in music, he has earned the respected position of Musical Director for Soul Britannia. Sam has also been honoured in Blues in Britain’s “Gallery of Greats” after winning ‘UK Drummer of the Year’ for five years running.

TONY QUNTA

As a professional musician, with over 20 years in the business, Tony has worked with artists such as ‘Odyssey’, Mervyn Afrika, Cheryl Alleyne, Mamadi Kamara, Kabbala, Grace Kennedy and Johnny Mars. His theatre credits include ‘Dancing In The Streets’, ‘Tell Me On A Sunday’ and ‘Soultrain’. Tony is currently touring the U.K. and overseas with “Soul Sister” following a very successful run of shows in the West End. Over the past few years, Tony has played with Edgar Winter, the Australian no. 1 female vocalist, Kate Ceberano, the award-winning trumpeter and composer, Mark Isham as well as “Chick Corea” drummer, Tom Brechtlein. Tony has also recorded with ex “Direct Drive” vocalist, Helen Rogers and is featured vocalist on Paul Hardcastle’s ’Jazz Masters’ albums. He recently performed with Zigaboo Modeliste, Imelda May, Paul Jones, Robben Ford, Andy Fairweather Low, Chris Barber and Mike Sanchez.

SPY AUSTIN

Spy is regarded as one of the best professional reggae/soul bass players on the London music circuit. He has worked with The Investigators, Gil Scott Heron, Desmond Dekker, George Clinton, Style Council, Jocelyn Brown, Mad Professor, Taka Boom, Mint Juleps, Junior Mervin and many more. His current projects also include 3rd Degree LeBurn, Geoff Achison & the U.K. Souldiggers, Sam Kelly’s Station House, Fowokan and reggae outfit “Reloaded”. He recently performed with Zigaboo Modeliste, Imelda May, Paul Jones, Robben Ford, Andy Fairweather Low, Chris Barber and Mike Sanchez. Rooting the groove with tremendous versatility, Spy also steers his way through genres such as Blues and New Orleans funk. He delivers an infectious blended feel which has made him a key element in the rhythm section for Sam Kelly’s Band.

MICHAEL ‘LALLY’ CAREY

Lally (guitar/vocals) is an entirely self-taught musician who truly plays from the soul. His style is his alone. With powerful vocals, vibrant stage presence and incredible muscianship on lead guitar, Lally delights audiences wherever he plays. His ability has led him into the world of musical composition for libraries, television and for some truly great performers. He has recently worked with Sam Kelly’s Station House, The Robert Hokum Band, London-based band “Devil Drives” and FOWOKAN reggae band. “Lally takes the crowd with him on whatever journey he and his fellow musicians decide – from the most delicate of summer breezes to the ‘tour de force’ of a full blown Hurricane………….stunning”..Time Out.
